We know dairy

Morrinsville sits in the highest-density dairy district in the country. We design around actual milking, cooling and washdown loads, not theory.

Qualified, registered electricians design, fit and sign off every system, fully compliant.

We back what we fit

Ongoing local servicing and monitoring from the same crew, not a one-off installer who vanishes.

Residential Solar

Morrinsville's growing fast, up 14.1% since the 2018 census, with new subdivisions and lifestyle blocks round town. With electricity costs continuing to rise, more Morrinsville homeowners are adding solar to cut their biggest bills, with batteries for the evening and for when the rural power drops out.

  • Right-sized for your home and power use, no overselling
  • Tier-1 panels and inverters, fitted by registered electricians
  • We'll design the system so you can add a battery later if it makes sense for you. You don't have to buy everything on day one

Farm Solar

The land round Morrinsville has the highest concentration of dairy cattle in the country. Matamata-Piako averaged about 282,700 cows over the year to May 2025. Sheds here run heavy daytime loads, milk cooling, vacuum pumps, water pumping, hot water, which line up nicely with solar.

Battery Storage

Morrinsville's rural feeders can cop weather outages, and early milking starts before the sun's up. A battery covers morning milking, shifts daytime solar into the evening, and keeps the important stuff running when the power drops out.

  • Cover early-morning milking and washdown
  • Back-up for rural Powerco feeders in a storm
  • Battery-ready systems, add storage now or later

Local Electricity Network

Lines company: Powerco

Morrinsville's on Powerco's network, not WEL Networks, which serves Hamilton and the Waikato district. For faults and outages, ring Powerco. Your solar (distributed generation) up to a set limit is sorted through your power retailer and Powerco's connection process.

Meridian Morrinsville Solar Farm

Consented 110MW solar farm 2km east of Morrinsville (134ha, about 230,000 panels, up to 200GWh/yr). Construction could start 2028, subject to Meridian's final call, which puts Morrinsville well and truly on NZ's solar map.

Piako substation

Morrinsville connects to the national grid at the Piako substation; a new 110/33kV substation supplies Powerco's Piako, Morrinsville, Farmer Road (Tatua) and Walton zone substations.

Tatua Co-operative Dairy

Iconic Morrinsville dairy processor at Farmer Road. One of the Waikato's biggest energy users, and a sign of how big dairy is round here.

Funding & Finance

Funding and finance work the same right across the Waikato, so we keep one properly checked hub instead of repeating old figures on every town page.

The ASB Rural SMART Solar Loan (0% for five years, up to $150,000) and the IRD Investment Boost (20% year-one tax deduction) are both open now. We continue to monitor Government funding programmes and update this hub whenever new opportunities become available. See the full, checked status table, which we review against EECA, ASB and IRD on the regular.

Common Questions

Who is the lines company in Morrinsville?

Powerco. Morrinsville's on Powerco's network, not WEL Networks, which serves Hamilton and the Waikato district. For faults and outages, ring Powerco on 0800 27 27 27.

Can I export my solar back to the grid in Morrinsville?

Yes. Your buy-back rate is set by your power retailer, not the lines company. Smaller home systems are usually straightforward. Above set limits, Powerco's connection process kicks in. We sort the export side with you when we come out.

Does the Meridian Morrinsville Solar Farm affect my rooftop install?

No. The Meridian farm is a grid-scale project connecting at the Piako substation. It's separate from your rooftop solar. If anything, it beefs up the local grid and shows how good the area is for solar.

Do you install solar on dairy sheds around Morrinsville?

Yes, dairy's a big part of what we do. Morrinsville sits in the highest-density dairy district in the country. We design around actual milking, cooling and washdown loads, not a one-size template.

Are there funding options for Morrinsville farm solar?

Yes. The ASB Rural SMART Solar Loan (0% for five years, up to $150,000) and the IRD Investment Boost (20% year-one tax deduction) are both open now. We continue to monitor Government funding programmes and update our Funding Hub whenever new opportunities become available. See our Farm Solar Funding hub for the full, verified rundown.

How long until solar pays for itself in Morrinsville?

As a guide, about 5 to 7 years for a well-sized dairy shed system and 6 to 9 years for a typical home, before any future grant. We work it out from your actual power bills and load, not a generic guess.

Do you service existing solar systems in Morrinsville?

Yes. We service and monitor the systems we've put up, and we can check over systems someone else fitted. Local back-up is just how we work.

What size solar system does a Morrinsville dairy shed need?

It depends on herd size, shed type and your power use. We size it off your actual bills and load profile, not a guess. Book a free assessment and we'll show you the right system for your place.
